Genuine Temporary Entry (GTE) Requirements

The GTE requirement explicitly addresses whether the individual circumstances of an applicant indicate that their intention is for a temporary stay in Australia. Student visa applicants must be both a GTE and a genuine student to be granted a visa. 

How the new Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement affects you

The GTE requirement was introduced by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection in November 2011 and applies to all student visa applications. 
Factors that will be considered include:
  • Your knowledge of your intended course of study and the education provider
  • Your previous study and qualifications
  • Whether the course you are seeking to undertake is consistent with your current level of education
  • Whether the course you are seeking to undertake will assist you obtain employment or improve your prospects in your home country
  • The relevance of the course to your past or planned employment
